Event Description: Dr. Reem el Mutwalli in conversation with Aida Dalati, a Syrian American textile and jacket designer specialising in Middle Eastern folk art.
With her partner, Tulip Kurdi, a Syrian American jewellery designer they have teamed up to celebrate their rich Syrian heritage by resurrecting traditional embroidery and sewing folklore. Drawing inspiration from five major Syrian dynasties, beginning with the Umayyads of Damascus, and ending with the opulent Mamluk era, they design dolls that are hand-sewn by Syrian refugees in the USA, Turkey, and beyond.
