In this era of constant mask-wearing, the similarities between a mask and a burqa’ are evident. A mask can be perceived as a form of suppression of freedom, yet it can also serve as a form of empowerment, allowing freedom of movement while protecting against the elements and infection. The burqa’ serves a similar purpose affirming that equality and empowerment of women do not look the same across the board and can be anchored in her cultural heritage and traditions.
