TALLI: BETWEEN TRADITION & MODERNITY
Explore UAE’s traditional craft of Talli and Mnaghad/Mnaqad. From silver to tinsel, from traditional to modern.
The Zay Initiative has partnered with Nilli to produce five looks inspired by the collection to showcase Talli in a modern way. Tradition versus modernity.
One side of this dual exhibit will show examples of the traditional application of these two crafts – Talli and Mnaghad/Mnaqad – as they evolved over the past fifty years from silver to tinsel, showcasing the different ways in which they can be applied to garments. The second part will depict possible ways to apply these crafts to contemporary garments as showcased in the designs of one UAE fashion brand, emphasising how tradition can consciously and creatively be sustained. These outfits are part of The Zay Collection. This collection’s aim is the preservation of contemporary UAE heritage for future generations.
