As the United Arab Emirates modernised rapidly in the second half of the twentieth century, the traditional dress of Emirati women evolved through several stages of change.

Sultani details the reality of dressmaking in its entirety throughout this period by delving into the historical nuances that underpinned this evolution while also examining regional and political influences on UAE dress through interviews with many of the region’s prominent female figures, recorded for the first time in print.

The book is the first of its kind, a museum quality publication composed of exceptional photography and contextual information of over 170 examples of Emirati dress from the author’s own collection, dating from 1968 to the present.

The lavish illustrations, provided by three renowned artists: Hayv Kahraman, Fatima Lootah and Mohammed Mandi, combine to make each page a visual masterpiece.
